Casio Exilim EX-H20G Revisited

One thing I do like about this camera is the fact that it just keeps going and going and going. Mind you I haven’t taken a whole lot of pictures but at the moment it feels like one will never have to worry about power. I don’t feel at all worried if I leave the thing logging for a 10 days or so, before I get bored and end up charging. Again this is with limited picture taking. On a recent trip south, I just kept the GPS logging thing on all day, in fact I just keep it on all the time without problem. I just threw the camera in back and let it record. Plenty accurate for me, I just generally need to know where I went!

Figured out what the logging length does. If you press the “person” button next to the globe, your tracks are displayed on screen with red dots. You can track your path from 1 day in varying increments to 14. Makes a mess if you are in the same general area for a few days. Still trying to figure out the usefulness of this feature but will say that it is too bad you cannot chose a day and then time span. As it is you can see your only your first day (or is it the last one?) separately. One cannot see just yesterday, or the day before for example. Interesting enough, if one sets the logging for 1 day, one cannot save tracks to SD card, any other length of time and you end up saving your last 14 days of tracks. I may add to this here as I learn how it works specifically, however the plan for now is to leave logging on and save to SD every now and then. 14 days of camera memory is more than adequate for any trip, for when I am vacationing it is rare that I not review my shots every day.

Still trying to figure out the best picture settings though. Generally speaking the picture is adequate but lacking, especially due to the fringing. Pictures look closer to my Nikon and Canon point and shoots with SR (super resolution) on but it does take 10~15 seconds. Right now playing with the sharpness and resolution settings. I don’t like how the Auto ISO works, it results in more depth of field than needed and higher ISO shots, say even 320, are partially the problem.

Ah yes, again, Casio, you’d have such a winner with more detail in the maps. You could even make more money with region map sales as antiquated as that sounds, but you’d have such a winner. The software feels very much like a beta version, and shame on you Casio for not providing better documentation!
